Logitech Squeezebox Boom - All-in-One Wireless Network Music Player
The Logitech Squeezebox Boom is the latest of the Squeezebox line of networked streaming music players from Logitech. This model includes a 30 watt Class D amplifier and stereo speakers onboard to make it a standalone music media streamer with no need for a computer to access online music services and the audio quality is clean, clear and full bodied.
The unit is not exactly portable as it relies upon AC power but it is relatively easy to relocate around the house or outside to a patio if desired. After the initial setup is complete -- if you unplug it and move it to another room -- it reconnects and is ready to go again in seconds. That initial setup is relatively easy, even for the "technically challenged" and once complete operation and music choice navigation is highly intuitive via the front panel knobs and display. The included remote allows basic operation from across the room and a nice touch is the remote's magnetized backplate which allows it to be stored and remain in place on metal surfaces. If you have more than one Boom you can listen to different music on each one as each is its own self-contained network player.
You can connect the Boom to music stored on your computer or connect to free and subscription online music services. The Boom's wide variety of various digital music formats supported include MP3, Apple Lossless, FLAC, WMA Lossless, AIFF, WAV, PCM, WMA, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, Mp2, and Musepack. The Logitech Squeezbox Boom may be the most versatile standalone music player available - that is until the innovators at Logitech come out with the next model ... perhaps an integrated battery next time?
